My favorite time of year

Autumn makes me happy.  It's all about crisp nights, sunny days, shaking out the sweaters and scarves, snuggling into a beloved's shoulder while holding a mug of hot cider in hands being hugged by cardigan thumbholes.  It's about watching the colors of nature change. Observing frantic squirrels feverishly lay up stores for the winter ahead. It's about watching stealthy, interested kitties watch said squirrels through slanted eyes and laid back ears, only to be thwarted once again.  It's about giving oneself permission to stay a little longer in a cozy recliner instead of bundling up to go do yard work.  Because, after all, those weeds will be needed for mulch soon anyway...right?

Fall is also a great time for gathering one's thoughts. Looking back on a bountiful well spent summer, and looking forward to cozy days of baking and family get-togethers.

My favorite moments of Autumn are that first day when my daughter and I sniff the air and notice a change and look at each other with an expression of "It's HERE!!"  It's the first scent of a wood fire carried along on gusts of newly crisp wind.  Of listening carefully for the sounds of falling leaves while on a walk, of letting rain on the window lull you to sleep. That first sip of mulled cider that makes the whole house smell like potpourri.

Yes - Fall is my favorite season. It's a very tactile, richly textured, wonderful time. Go enjoy yours!!

Make it a great day!
