"Why would you ever start a blog??!"
Good question! Right? I've asked myself this every time I hear that a friend has a blog, or I've stumbled onto one that seems really personal. I grew up in an era of privacy, and I live there on purpose. I enjoy not having everyone know my business. Maybe it's because my Grandma was a small, "curious" Ukrainian woman who made your business her business, and then attempted to change circumstances to suit her. I learned from a young age to just not share my plans....with anyone. It just seemed simpler, and caused a lot less grief. I loved my Grandma, and the older I get, the wiser she seems. But she was my first teacher in the art of privacy. What is in your heart is best left in your heart.
So why even consider a blog? One where you aren't just discussing your latest workout plan or favorite new recipe? Authenticity. Being real. Being true to you. Believing in what you are and believing in it enough to brave letting it get "out there." I think that it is healthy to infuse degrees of vulnerability into one's life. It keeps us humble, approachable, likable. And I've lived long enough to know that in life, there is treasure and beauty in knowing people, and being known.
That's why I've decided to start a blog. Wow. I just read that sentence and it hit me. I never thought I would type that! This blog will be many things. It will chronicle my journey. It will capsulize my thoughts. It will contemplate my future. It will not always be grammatically or politically correct, but neither am I. It will be a place for me to be myself. (Eeeek!) I don't seek approval from the reader, but I do ask for understanding and grace at times. We all need that.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope that what follows on these pages will encourage you if you are down, give you hope if you feel lost, or maybe entertain on a long day. But I really hope that the thread of warmth, acceptance, hard-knock-lessons, and resilience comes through. I am writing this blog as an exercise in openness. This is for me. But I have a feeling that God has brought me through some experiences in my life that once shared, may serve to help someone who finds themselves in a similar situation.
Make it a great day!
